Lionel Messi Wins FIFA’s Best Men’s Player Award

Lionel Messi was named FIFA’s best men’s soccer player in 2022 during a ceremony held in Paris on Monday.

Messi has now won the men’s award for the second year in a row (first since 2019), while Putellas has won the women’s award for the second year in a row.

Messi finally won his first World Cup, giving Argentina its first title since 1986 and cementing his place as arguably the game’s greatest player.

Messi made his fifth World Cup appearance in 2022, tying his career high. Kylian Mbappé, the top player from the team that Argentina defeated in the World Cup final, finished second in the men’s award voting, while Karim Benzema, the 2022 Ballon d’Or winner, finished third.

Polish soccer star Robert Lewandowski had won the previous two men’s awards.
