Alhaji Muntari Alhassan, the opposition NDC’s chairman of the Ashanti Regional Cadres, shockingly joined his whole executive team in defecting to the ruling NPP.
Citing the necessity to protect their children’s future, the organization has severed relations with the NDC and is asking its followers to do the same.
The defection announcement in Ntonso Zongo on Friday, August 23, 2024, shocked the NDC’s regional support base. Former NDC stalwart Alhaji Muntari disclosed that the government’s pro-poor initiatives, including the Free Senior High School program, which has helped his own family, had an impact on their decision to join the NPP.
To carry out the party’s agenda, the defectors have vowed to vigorously support NPP Flagbearer Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
The action is seen to have dealt a serious blow to the NDC’s support base in the region and may have repercussions for the party’s national standing.
Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, welcomed the defectors during his grassroots campaign in the Kwabre East constituency, hailing their decision as a testament to the NPP’s commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians.
