Abena Dapaah is in the news again as the OSP places her under arrest.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has arrested Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah during the early hours of Monday, July 24, following the saga of huge amounts of money and valuable items stolen at her residence, Abelempke.

Prior to the minister’s arrest, an amount of $1m, €300k and millions of cedis dominated most of the news headlines on Friday, July 21, 2023. This however was reported to have been stolen from the then Minister’s resident in Abelempke, Accra.

Following several news on the stated saga, the then Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources and former MP for Bantama Constituency released a notice which aimed at addressing the imprecision comments passed on the theft which occurred at her home.

“There are noticeable inconsistencies between what is discussed in the public domain and the thrust of the original complaint on the matter”, a part of the notice read.

Touching on the theft, the flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), H.E the former President John Drama Mahama, in addition to the Minority in Parliament (NDC MPs) called for an immediate probe into the huge amounts of money stolen from the then Minister’s home.

Madam Dapaah on Saturday, July 22 resigned from the position as the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources following scandal which involved $1m, €300k and millions of undisclosed cedis which was allegedly stolen by her house helps.

Per her resignation letter which was directly directed to the President, she stated the rationale behind the decision that, ” I am resigning therefore because I do not want this matter to become a preoccupation of government and a hindrance to the work of the of government at such a crucial time”.

Earlier today, Monday July 24, a press release from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) electronically announced the arrest of the then Minister in respect suspected corruption and corrupt -related offences regarding large amounts of money and other valuable items reportedly stolen from her residence.

Social media went ablaze on Friday, July 22, 2023 following the news of $1m, €300k and millions of cedis which was reportedly stolen by house helps of Hon Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the then Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources and aformer Member of Parliament for Bantama, at her residence in Abelempke, Accra.
