After Barcelona’s La Liga match against Athletic Club, manager Hansi Flick shared some details about his post-match chat with Nico Williams.
Happily adjusting to life as Barça’s head coach, Flick has had a perfect start to life in Spain, winning his first two league games.
The 59-year-old led Barcelona to a spirited 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao on Saturday afternoon in the most recent match, according to Goal.
Robert Lewandowski and emerging sensation Lamine Yamal’s goals were exactly the same as their previous victory against Valencia.
With six points from two games, the Catalan giants have maintained their perfect start to the season, positioning themselves as early contenders for the title.
Hansi Flick chats with transfer target Nico Williams
But many were more interested in Flick’s conversation with Nico Williams following the final whistle than in the outcome itself.
Williams was rumored to be close to moving to Catalonia, having been under Barcelona’s notice the whole summer transfer season. In the end, the gifted winger chose to stay with Bilbao in spite of these rumors.
“I didn’t say anything specific to Nico after the game… just congratulations for the Euros!” Flick explained, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
