A 16-year-old BECE Candidate has died after reportedly slipping into a galamsey pit in Pramkuma, Eastern Ghana.

Yakubu David, the BECE Candidate who fell into the Galamsey pit was in his final year at Akyem-Techiman Methodist Junior High School. It is being reported by locals that he was in a car that was being chased by armed security personnel when he d!ed.

According to police, the BECE Candidate was involved in local, unauthorized mining in an attempt to support himself.

According to James Abanga, who knew David, the moments before his de@th were very sad. According to him, the officers in charge of security suspected David of stealing gold from a mine.

With everything so unclear, they ran after him carrying guns and cutlasses. James said the security men reportedly beat David before he fell into the Galamsey Pit.

According to James, he was beaten and then pushed, but there is no official confirmation from authorities.

The community and his family are deeply grieving after David passed away so unexpectedly. His father, Yakubu Ayuba, was very sad and said that many young people have resorted to illegal mining because there are few opportunities and they are poor. He is urging the government to carry out a full investigation and hold those involved accountable.

Like most students around the country, David wanted to complete his basic education and go on to a better future. Unfortunately, his ambitions were interrupted just weeks ahead of his national exams.

Illegal mining is still a big concern in Ghana because it causes environmental harm, including the degradation of land and water pollution and it endangers many young people.

Although action by both the government and community groups tries to reduce galamsey, poverty and lack of other options still lead many into the trade.

People are calling for a full investigation into how the BECE Candidate, Yakubu David died, as they want to know the truth and see justice done.
