German professional football manager and former player Hans-Dieter “Hansi” Flick was born on February 24, 1965.

Flick started his coaching career as a player-manager at Victoria Bammental in the fourth division after having played for SV Sandhausen, Bayern Munich, and 1. FC Köln.

Before leaving in 2005, Flick managed neighboring fourth-division team 1899 Hoffenheim from 2000 to 2005, winning them promotion to the Regionalliga Süd. He worked as Joachim Löw’s assistant coach for Germany from 2006 to 2014, assisting the national team in winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Up until 2017, he served as the German Football Association’s sporting director.
