John Dramani Mahama, the former President of Ghana, and the current presidential candidate for the National Democratic Congress has been questioned by Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who is the vice presidential candidate of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), on whether he is now a magician to be guaranteeing jobs.
Dr. Prempeh recounted that when Ghanaian youth were begging for jobs during President John Mahama’s administration, the former president informed them that he was not a magician who could make jobs appear out of thin air.
But in an unexpected change of events, the former president, who is running for president once more on the NDC ticket, is now telling the country’s young people that if they support him in the polls in December, he will create jobs for them.
In fact, among other things, the NDC’s 2024 manifesto is purportedly dependent on the development of jobs.
The NDC flagbearer had previously stated that only magicians could invent jobs out of thin air to absolve the country’s youth, which is what forced the NPP running mate to inquire as to whether the flagbearer had turned into a magician.
On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Dr. Prempeh was on a constituency-focused campaign tour in the Ashanti Region. He was speaking at a small rally in Drobonso, the capital of the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency.
NAPO characterized John Mahama’s flip-flopping position, as he is well known, as a sign of desperation that the Ghanaian people should not support.
He claims the former president is untrustworthy and that his pledge to create jobs for young people is a lie because he has repeatedly shown this.
NAPO made a plea to the Drobonso Chiefs and people to put their trust in the NPP, as well as in his boss, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and George Ackon, the party’s parliamentary candidate.
Additionally, he politely visited the Drobonso Chief in his palace.
The Chief welcomed the NPP running mate and praised the NPP government for granting them access to a district court, an Agenda 111 hospital, and power, among other projects.
This is true even though the NPP has never prevailed in the constituency’s parliamentary elections.
From the Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency, the NPP running mate and his team proceeded to the Juaben Constituency, where he paid a courtesy call on the paramount Chief of the Juaben Traditional Council, Dasebre Nana Siriboe II, who also doubles as the Chairman of the Council of State.
A durbar of Chiefs, religious leaders and the people of Juaben was held at the forecourt of the palace to welcome the Vice-Presidential candidate.
Dasebre recounted the achievements of the NPP in Juaben including the creation of the Juaben Municipal Assembly, asphalting of all the major roads leading to Juaben as well as the town’s inner roads, construction of Model STEM JHS and other educational infrastructure particularly at the Juaben SHS, streetlights, Astroturfs and many others.
He also commended the party’s parliamentary candidate, Francis Owusu Akyaw for undertaking some landmark projects even though he is not yet an MP.
The paramount Chief advised the NPP not to campaign in Juaben because the people had already accepted the party.
NAPO, on his part, thanked Nana Siriboe II and pleaded with him that while he counsels the President of the Republic and the State in general, he [Napo] only requires the chief’s continuous guidance and instructions to make him succeed.
He reiterated Dr Bawumia’s firm commitment to working closely with traditional leaders in governing the country.
