
Netherlands sinks Turkiye to advance to the semi-finals of Euro 2024
The Netherlands bounced back from a goal down to defeat Turkiye in last quarter final match of Euro 2024.
Turkiye proved to be a very tough opponent for the high-flying Dutchmen. Ronald Koeman’s men looked unstoppable after their display against Romania in their round of 16 encounter.
The Turkish took the lead in the first half through the header of Akaydin on the 35th minute. The cross from Arda Guler was perfectly headed home by the 30 year old Fenerbache defender.
The Dutch however grew into the game in the second half after the introduction of former Manchester United striker Wout Weghorst.
Stefan De Vrij headed home a perfectly timed cross from Memphis Depay to bring The Netherlands back to level terms. With the vicious attack of the Dutch it was only a matter of time before the went ahead in the game.
Cody Gakpo forced an own-goal off Turkish defender Mert Muldur in the 76th minute to give the Dutch the lead. Stefan De Vrij ended the game as the man of the match following an outstanding display from the Inter Milan defender.
The Netherlands will be facing England in the semi final on Wednesday, 10th July 2024 at the BVB Stadion in Dortmund.
