Lionel Messi Breaks Another Record As He Won His 8th Pichichi Award

Lionel Messi has once again break another important record as he won his 8th Pichichi Award

Lionel Messi has been at the top over the past decades since he made his debut with Barcelona, he has won so many individual awards but the ones most people talk about is the Ballon Dor and Pichichi award.

Pichichi award was started in the 1952/1953 season in Spanish football. It was named after one of the most iconic players in Spain – Rafael Moreno Aranzadi(Athletico Bilbao Striker then), whose nickname is “PICHICHI“.

Lionel Messi, whose record in the 2020/2021 La Liga season is still resounding in terms of the number of goals scored, won the 2020/2021 Pichichi award, making it his 8th of such award.

He played 35 games, scored 30 goals and 11 assists in La Liga 2020/2021 season. He’s undoubtful, one of the greatest players, the world has ever witnessed.

In his football career, he has recorded a series of tremendous successes such as:

1. Most UEFA Champions League group stage goals: 74

2. Most UEFA Champions League round of 16 goals: 28

3. Most UEFA Champions League goals for a single club: 120 (Barcelona)

4. Most UEFA Competition goals for a single club: 123 (Barcelona)

5. Most Ballon d’ Or Awards: 6

6. Most La Liga goals: 474

7. Most La Liga goals in a single season:50 (2011/2012)

8. Most goals in a calendar year: 79 (2012, if included the goals for Argentina, it will be 91).

9. Most La Liga titles won by a foreigner: 10.

10. Most ESM Golden Shoes: 6

11. Most club honors: 35.
