Tebas, of La Liga, could be suspended due to a ‘CVC Deal’-related foul play.
In a dramatic turn of events, Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, finds himself at the center of controversy as the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) opens a case against him. The complaint, filed by Real Madrid, accuses Tebas of calling an assembly with insufficient notice regarding a deal with CVC, which Real Madrid alleges constitutes discrimination against them.

The CVC deal in question was finalized in December 2021, where CVC was granted an 8.25% stake in La Liga’s audiovisual rights for the next 50 years in exchange for €1.994 billion ($2.1bn). This agreement was approved by 38 out of 42 clubs in the top two divisions of Spanish football.
The issue at hand revolves around the assembly that approved the CVC deal, which was called with only eight days of warning, rather than the required ten. As a result, the results of that meeting were declared null and void. However, a similar meeting was called five months later, where the deal was ratified, much to the dismay of Real Madrid.
Tebas has yet to respond to this development, and the potential consequences of the case remain uncertain. If found guilty, Tebas could face a range of sanctions, including a public reprimand, a temporary suspension of up to one year, or even banishment from his post as President of La Liga.
This ongoing dispute between Tebas and Real Madrid highlights the tension between the league’s leadership and one of its most influential clubs. The outcome of this case could have significant implications for the future of La Liga and the relationship between the league and its member clubs.
As the situation unfolds, football fans and stakeholders alike will be watching closely to see how this saga plays out and what it means for the future of Spanish football.
