Footage of NPP politician and Akonta Mining owner, Chairman Wontumi, being taken to the hospital after suffering a health problem during questioning by EOCO is now all over the internet.
The video, posted by the Ghanaian blogger The 1957 News, showed the Ashanti Regional Chairman being driven from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra to get medical care.
Wontumi was questioned by EOCO officials for nearly six hours on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, before he suddenly got ill. Andy Appiah Kubi, the lawyer, later told the media that the client required urgent medical attention.
Kubi did not say at first where Wontumi had been taken, but later on, he said he believed the chief was at the 37 Military Hospital. The 1957 News, however, reported that he was not at the facility, which raised new questions about Wontumi’s situation.

Ghanaians on social media had many different reactions after watching the video. While a few people were understanding, others thought Wontumi was only pretending to keep his actions hidden.
There were many responses online, and they varied from sarcastic to doubtful.
“I’m not going to be able to handle the heat,” one person replied.
“You will experience the results of your own actions,” was another idea.
“That is what tactics do. Who says men don’t exist? Papa Mahama,” said one user on Instagram.
Someone asked, “Does he have to spend all of his time in the hospital?”

The pressure on Wontumi has grown because of accusations of financial wrongdoing. His arrest and questioning by EOCO have brought political tensions, especially after Afia Schwarzenegger praised his downfall online.
As events happen, it remains unclear if Chairman Wontumi was seriously sick or if his visit to the hospital was a calculated step in a tough legal and political situation.
