Roberto Firmino, the former striker for Liverpool, was ordained as an evangelical pastor three years after helping to start the Manah Church in Maceio, his hometown.
In 2020, Firmino founded the church with the help of his spouse Larissa Pereira and the pastors Jairo Fernandes and Keila Medeiros.

Firmino included pictures from the Sunday, June 30 ordination event in an Instagram post.
The 32-year-old and his wife described the event as “memorable and unforgettable.”
“What a memorable and unforgettable night. This church was BORN in the heart of God and we are extremely grateful for the privilege of witnessing up close all that the Lord has done,” Firmino wrote.
“Since our encounter with Christ, a longing burns in our hearts… Let people know this love that has reached us. Now we have another craving and responsibility… Be Pastors after God’s heart and who cooperate with the Kingdom.”
He added, “Today we are totally flabbergasted when we see the size of God’s mercy upon us. He really picks the unlikely! Thank You Jesus. Thank you Pr Jairo and Pr Keila for pushing us and believing in us.”
This spiritual commitment comes after making a big choice a few years ago. Firmino was christened in 2020 at the home’s swimming pool, which belonged to his former teammate Alisson Becker.
Firmino was with Liverpool for eight years, during which time he was instrumental in the Reds’ victories in both the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League. Firmino has not given up on football despite taking on a pastoral role. He still has two years left on his deal with Al-Ahli, a Saudi Pro League team.
The forward’s journey from a celebrated footballer to a dedicated pastor highlights his deep commitment to his faith and community. Firmino’s dual role as a professional athlete and a spiritual leader continues to inspire many around the world.
