Indonesia Stadium riot video: A scuffle and stampede at an Indonesian football stadium killed at least 174 people and injured many more. On Saturday night in the eastern city of Malang, one of the world’s deadliest sporting stadium accidents occurred.
After Arema FC’s team lost to Persebaya Surabaya 3-2, thousands of their supporters reportedly flooded the field at Kanjuruhan Stadium, according to police in the East Java region. Police used tear gas in an attempt to quell the “riots,” which caused a stampede as terrified spectators raced for an exit gate.
Others died after being crushed while others suffocated in the commotion. Nearly 34 people perished there.
In an interview with Kompas TV on Sunday afternoon, Emil Dardak, the vice governor of East Java, stated that 174 people had died and more than 100 injured individuals were undergoing emergency care in eight hospitals. He claimed that eleven of them were in critical condition.
