Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel departed the game after taking a late hit during the Sooners’ 55-24 loss against TCU on Saturday. During a scramble early in the second quarter, Horned Frogs linebacker Jamoi Hodge smacked Gabriel in the head.
Gabriel’s head bounced off the ground due to the intensity of the strike. While Hodge was kicked out of the game for targeting and inciting undue roughness, Gabriel was allowed to depart on his own.

In his second season, Gabriel guided the Knights to a 6-4 record and an appearance in the Boca Raton Bowl, where they lost 49-23. He completed 21 of 45 passes for 217 yards and two touchdowns.
Gabriel suffered an injury during the final play of a regular-season game between the Knights and Louisville on September 17, 2021. The play involved a multi-lateral attempt by the Knights to score a miraculous touchdown. After the game, Gabriel’s shoulder underwent X-rays after being carried off the field. He shattered his left clavicle, which led to the early end of his season even though no surgery was required.
Gabriel declared on social media that he would be leaving UCF on November 27, 2021.
Gabriel initially declared that he would transfer to the University of California, Los Angeles on December 16, 2021 (UCLA). Gabriel revealed, however, that he would be moving to the University of Oklahoma on January 3, 2022, less than three weeks later.
