Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been handed a seven-match domestic suspension by the Football Association after being found guilty of using a racial slur towards his teammate Son Heung-min.
The Tottenham midfielder has been fined £100,000 and ordered to participate in a mandatory face-to-face education program following a charge by the Football Association (FA). The charge, issued in September, stemmed from comments Bentancur made during a TV appearance in his home country of Uruguay in June.
The 30-year-old midfielder, who joined Tottenham in 2021 after spending five successful seasons with Juventus, has been a key player for the team. Bentancur has made 68 Premier League appearances, contributing seven goals and seven assists. This season, he has featured in 10 matches for Tottenham, scoring one goal, although he remains goalless in his Europa League outings.
Despite denying the FA charge, an independent regulatory commission found the case proven during a hearing, resulting in the sanctions imposed.
