Popular Ghanaian televangelist Evangelist Mama Pat, known as Agradaa, has been served a writ of summons in a GH₵20 million lawsuit for defamation by Empress Gifty.
On Monday, May 26, 2025, at a courthouse in Accra, a court bailiff gave Agradaa the legal papers, in the presence of her husband, Angel Asiamah. A video of what happened, posted by Gossips24TV on Instagram, was seen by a lot of people and led to many reactions.
In the video, Agradaa and her husband were walking toward the elevator when the bailiff handed them the writ. Angel Asiamah responded with clear irritation instead of showing respect. He grabbed the summons from the bailiff and tossed it to the ground before the couple left without saying anything.
The lawsuit came after days of online disputes and fights on social media between Empress Gifty and Agradaa. Empress Gifty, the wife of politician Hopeson Adorye, brought the lawsuit because Agradaa reportedly said things about her and her husband that were not true. She has sued for GH20 million, saying that her reputation was targeted in a coordinated plan.
Agradaa’s husband’s outspoken reaction has drawn more attention to the case, with people wondering what the couple thinks about the law and the court system.
Agradaa’s most recent controversy contributes to a long series of public fights she has been involved in. The evangelist who used to be a fetish priestess has been arrested several times and often makes news for her confrontational behavior.

In spite of the theatrics, the legal system is expected to move forward. If someone throws the writ of summons, it is still a valid legal notice.
Currently, Empress Gifty has not spoken out to the public about the incident. However, because the case has begun, Ghanaians should anticipate more updates in the weeks ahead.
