Jesse Marsch hopeful for a better performance from Canada in the 2026 world cup
Canada national team led by Jesse Marsch lost to Scaloni’s Argentina in the semi finals of the ongoing Copa America.
Despite being underdogs, Canada impressed many by making it to the semis of the Copa America only to be stopped by the indomitable Argentine side captained by Lionel Messi.
Goals in the first and second half of the game by Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi respectively was enough to give Argentina to win over Canada.
Coach of the Canada national team Jesse Marsch had these to say about his team when he met the press after the game:
“We’ve had a wonderful 5-6 weeks together, and I told the boys that I’m incredibly proud of them even though they are obviously disappointed. This is a special moment, and we have to recognise what has been done here. There’s more room to improve.”
I think one of the things we lacked was a killer instinct and that part of our game will develop with time.
The number one thing I’m most proud of with this team is their commitment to be the team I want them to be. I’m also learning to be a national team coach, by the way.
“One of the things we have to learn is that when the game is not going according to plan, players need to stick to the plans. We had a few of the guys doing their own thing when we went down and I spoke about that at half time.”
When asked of how he views Canada’s performance ahead of the 2026 world cup Jesse Marsch said these;
“It is very important that we got this far because every match is needed to work out our process ahead of 2026. We will build a program going forward to build on what we’ve done here.”
Canada will be hosting the 2026 world cup along with Mexico and USA. They look to improve on their performance ahead of the much anticipated world cup tournament.
