On Saturday, June 28, 2025, tragedy befell Bremang in the Ashanti Region when a runaway truck plowed into a container shop, killing a 20-year-old beauty apprentice who was identified as Afia Darkowaa, also known as Cindy.
As witnessed by the eyewitnesses and reported by the police, the gruesome accident happened when a truck, which had been left unattended, started rolling downhill.
The driver was claimed to have parked the vehicle on the roadside and gone to use a washroom nearby without activating the handbrake and switching off the engine.
In seconds, the heavy truck picked up speed and crashed into a container shop and a restaurant, bringing havoc. Unfortunately, Cindy had been in the shop at that moment and was hit and killed on impact.
The reason that the incident is even more heartbreaking is that Cindy had no intention of being at work that day. She was already done with her shift in a local beauty salon where she was an apprentice.
Nevertheless, her boss called her with a small request, and she was generous enough to accept it and to babysit the store in the meantime.
It was that small, selfless gesture that would be the last time she ever did so.

The viral video of the accident scene captured the residents and passers-by in complete shock as the scene showed melted metal and the shards of what used to be a small business.
One can hear people crying, and the othersare attempting to piece together how such a tragedy can occur so swiftly.
One neighbor who was holding back her tears said, “She was such a polite, hardworking girl. Her dreams were to own a salon.”
The truck driver, now identified as unnamed, is still under police custody as the investigations go on.
The police are also investigating as to whether any negligence charges could be pressed on him because he had not parked the car safely.
As the people of Bremang mourn the loss of a young life, which was so unfair to such a promising young person, social media has been awash with tributes to the loss of Cindy, a kind person, a dedicated individual, and a bright future that died so early.
