Young Woman Shares Painful Truth About Being Assaulted During TV Time
Gifty is a 24-year-old Ghanaian young woman who gave a heart-wrenching testimony on how her life took a bad twist due to the fact that when she was 15 years old, she was exploited by an older man.
In a heart-touching interview, Gifty stated that the man, who became the father of her four children, stayed in the same neighborhood as her family. She states that at that time she went to fetch water at his house frequently and knew him well.

One day he requested me to come over and watch TV with him. “I was enthusiastic.” She was sobbing: “I did not imagine that decision would alter my life forever,” she said.
The young woman says that the man had his way with her without her consent as she was watching TV. According to her, it was her first time, and the man later on the show confirmed that he broke her virginity.
According to Gifty, they remained lovers, and she got four children over the years. But what was initially a misunderstood relationship between an adolescent girl and an older man turned out to be a matter of suffering and remorse.
“He beat me and abused me. I suffered so much there at that house,” she said. “One day I abandoned him. He has not given me any money in two years to take care of the children.”
The young woman is now a single mother who feels abandoned, abused and betrayed. Her account has garnered the sympathy of the community as several people have urged law enforcement to intervene and look into the behavior of the man, considering that she was very young at the time of the initial incident.
The case has also led to renewed demands on the need to enforce Ghanaian laws that protect children as well as awareness creation on the vulnerability of teenagers and sexual abuse.
To Gifty, talking back is only a start. “I simply want people to hear my story. Possibly another person will not suffer as I did.”
