Ghanaians get angry after a video of a woman giving a baby alcohol for sleep hits online.
A video that went viral on social media via Facebook has raised the ire of the country in which a young mother was caught on camera feeding her baby alcohol and laughing.
The videos, which have now spread across the internet at a rampant rate, depict the mother holding the bottle in a carefree manner and feeding the baby girl a shot of what a large portion of the world believes to be an alcoholic beverage.

The infant seems too young to be able to talk or fight back, which becomes even more devastating to watch.
It is the explanation given by the woman that has infuriated a lot of people. She explains her actions in the video by stating that she is giving the baby alcohol on a nightly basis to make her sleep well at night.
The action has been condemned by thousands of users on different platforms, who termed it abusive, reckless, and dangerous for giving a baby alcohol to sleep. Numerous people are requesting that the Ghana child protection services urgently intervene, and some even want the mother arrested.
“It is not only bad parenting.” One of the users wrote in response to the video, “This is child endangerment.“
Medical professionals too have not been left off the hook, as they have issued a stern warning about the extreme health hazards such behavior is causing in newborns.
Pediatricians emphasize that the liver may be destroyed by even minor amounts of (baby alcohol) alcohol in the baby because of their delicate organs and low body weight, leading to developmental delays, coma, or even death.

The nervous system and brain of an infant are in their developing stage. A child health specialist in an interview with a local media outlet said, Alcohol is harmful with long-term effects.
Most Ghanaians are now requesting the authorities to investigate the case, including the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection, and to provide safety to the child.
At the same time, the video is still being shared on WhatsApp, TikTok, and Facebook, which is causing even greater outrage, with new audiences surprised at how irresponsible the mother could be.
This event is only a few weeks after another viral video featured a mother berating her teenage daughter because of her indecent dressing, indicating increasing worries about parenting and child welfare in Ghana.
To date, the police or child welfare services have not issued any official statement; however, pressure is mounting on them to take immediate action.
