In a tragic twist of fate, a couple who had just been married in Tamale passed away a few hours after the wedding.
The fatal accident occurred early Monday morning, June 23, 2025, as the couple were going to Gurugu, where the groom had already rented an apartment where they were to start their new life together.
In a reports collected, the couple, whose identity is yet to be officially announced, was jubilant and filled with hopefulness following their wedding celebrations over the weekend.
They were cruelly shattered when a vehicle without number-plates ran into them at dawn.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle, allegedly driven by citizens of Nigeria, hit the couple and drove away. The car occupants are reported to have escaped leaving the field in chaos and heartbreak.
The police have already initiated a manhunt to find the suspects and are still investigating the hit-and-run.
Firefighters and other emergency services got to the place in a mad rush, yet it was too late. The bodies of the young couple were carried to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) morgue at about 2.50am where they were pronounced dead.

Images of the crash site online depict a grim image; twisted metal, broken glass and any personal items that once represented the beginning of a new ride now signal an ending.
The people of Tamale are left in mourning and shock. A week of celebrations has turned into a week of sadness as family, friends, and neighbors come to grips with the sudden loss of two young lives with so much promise ahead of them.
The local authorities and community are urging the police to do more in the search and to serve justice to the families that have lost their loved ones in this hit-and-run case.
