Members of the community have gathered to mourn the dea@th of Victoria Paris, a pregnant woman from Port Harcourt, who tragically died after a supposed religion-driven.
The incident was reported on Facebook by Chris, who claims that the tragic incident occurred at a maternity clinic in Borokiri, Port Harcourt.
He said that Victoria was seven months pregnant when she suddenly felt severe stomach pain. She was immediately rushed to the clinic where she had delivered her children before.
This event required an immediate caesarean section for the complications. According to Chris, the operation was successful; however, Victoria bled profusely and needed urgent blood to survive. Based on his view, the doctor refused the blood transfusion, as it contradicted her religious tenets as a Jehovah’s Witness.
“We lost our loved one to the cruelty of death,” Chris wrote. As he says, the doctor used her faith to explain why she would not give blood.

He added that there was a power cut in the hospital during the surgery with a delay in restoring the electricity using backup power further raising the question of the preparedness of the hospital.
Chris was furious and frustrated with his insistence that no one’s beliefs should ever come between a patient and their treatment, especially when the stakes are so high.
“You must set aside religion before you can manage a hospital,” he commented. “My beloved lost her life at the hands of the doctor because of his religious convictions.“
The grieving man also alleged that the hospital staff had hidden vital risks from his family, including the possibility that he was not to be given a blood transfusion, in order to have him sign consent forms for the operation.
His emotive plea for justice has attracted a lot of attention on the internet, leading to massive demands for a probe and better regulations on healthcare ethics and emergency management in private medical centres.
A devoted mother, Victoria Paris is mourned as a loving mother, and many believe that her life could have been saved by prompt medical attention.
