A mother in Ghana has left social media on fire after a video of her running into the classroom to flog her son after he disrespected his teachers became a hit on the internet.
The video has been shared on all the platforms and shows the enraged mother coming to the school and passing with a cane during school time.
She flogged her son right in front of shocked classmates and teachers, apparently after being informed about his misbehavior of being disrespectful to the school staff.
It is reported that the teachers had been complaining of the bad behaviors of the boy but could not take any sort of disciplinary action against him because of the tough policy of the Ghana Education Service (GES) that does not allow corporal punishment in school.
The mother was frustrated and decided to take matters in her own hands. Even some of the classmates of the boy were observed assisting in restraining him in the clip as the mother spanked him on top of a desk.
The incident has polarized the opinion of people.
Other parents and web users have hailed the mother as a hero who came to their rescue and took action and imposed discipline during a time when schools, according to them, seem to have lost all their control over their students.

One user wrote, “This is what we need today: tough love.” More parents should be like this and then schools will be disciplined.“
The actions of the mother were labeled by others as excessive and humiliating, and that the child could be traumatized by such forms of punishment, which would also deny the child his rights.
“Discipline has to be there, but not in this manner. Not public flogging,” as one of the users posted.
It has also prompted the child rights activists to demand an investigation, claiming that schools should be a safe place for children even though they are misbehaving.
The GES has not yet made an official statement, although through the incident a new debate has risen on the ways schools and parents should collaborate to ensure discipline is achieved without the use of outdated practices.
As Ghana finds its way in between traditional societal principles and the emerging norms regarding child protection, the case indicates the emerging conflict between discipline and dignity within the system of education.
