A Nigerian has caused an uproar on the internet after coming out to tell how he took his church offering money and pledged a sports bet with it—and has actually won N2 million.
At X (formerly Twitter), the confession was done anonymously by the unnamed man who disclosed that he is a member of the financial committee of the church. His shocking and bizarre story has already gone viral, and thousands of people have reacted to it.
In his post, the man claimed that the pressure prompted him to use some of the money that he had received to go to church as church offerings and gamble using the money in a popular online betting site called Sportybet.
“I serve in the financial committee of my church. I had to bet 2.8 million in our offering to the church just to earn 2 million in SportyBet because of pressure,” he wrote.
I am guilty of it because it is God’s money. I am now not sure whether I should pay it (all) back or simply move to another state and change the number.”
Although it is obvious that the man is struggling against his conscience, social media users have a lot to say and not every one is in agreement on what he should proceed to do.

One of them stated, “Refund the offering to the church and pay your tithe. Then get on with your life.”
Another of them said, ‘You never felt frightened when you had made the bet, and now that you have won, you are scared?’
There were people who even joked that they would replace him on the church committee, and there were those who told him to just give back the amount he used to wager on and keep the balance.
One of the comments said that you need not run as long as you have fulfilled the church money. God even won’t understand.”
Others, however, were quite severe, accusing him of irresponsibility and disrespect towards holy money.
This case has created controversy regarding gambling, responsibility, and the possibility of ever finding peace in achieving what is rightfully wrong, which is, in this case, the money intended to serve spiritual purposes.
It is not clear yet whether the man is going to do the right thing or go away with his millions in peace. However, there is one sure thing: the internet is ever-present, and the verdict is always against you.
