A young Ghanaian man is receiving attention on social media after a video of him emerged explaining how he was dumped after gifting his girlfriend with a brand-new iPhone 12.
In an interview on the TikTok page @campuswithsharkbo, the man opened with a combination of humour and heartbreak about how his romantic gesture backfired.
He stated that initially he bought the iPhone 12 for himself but later on he gave it to his girlfriend when she expressed interest.
“My girlfriend saw the phone, and she said she liked it,” he remembered. “Due to love, I simply gave it to her”.
Unfortunately, the good turn did not bear any fruit. The young man admitted that after giving away the phone, he could not afford another one, so he had to downgrade to an iPhone 7.
To add salt to injury, the girlfriend – now a student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology – left him for another man soon.
With a quiet but sad smile, he said, “I’d just wish the best of luck to her and her guy”.
The video has received a lot of reaction online – it has been liked more than 15,000 times and gathered more than 600 comments.
Most netizens empathized with the man, while the rest of them asked him to go back and get his phone.

One of the commenters, @NanaYaw, stated, “Ah masa, this is not funny. Bro, organize boys and go get your phone … link me up, I am in Kasoa.“
Another viewer admired the man’s composure, saying, “I like his maturity and personality”. Such is life; sometimes we just have to acknowledge what has happened and move forward.
Although the heartbreak is real, many admired the young man for being so honest and mature. For the time being, he’s returned to his iPhone 7 — and perhaps to reconsider the next time he’s tempted to donate his phone in the name of love.
