The planned biopic on Captain Ibrahim Traoré by popular Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Lilwin has been stopped because of a distressing event.
Lilwin says that when a group of about ten unidentified young men on motorbikes came to the set and demanded the filming be halted, chaos erupted.
“It happened without warning, and they insisted we shut the place down,” Lilwin recalled in her interview. It did not work out when we tried to talk with them. They smashed some of our equipment and also vandalised a portion of the property.
This incident has caused problems in the project and put a lot of pressure on the company’s finances. Lilwin said that it was costing the team GHC 15,000 per day just to keep the set running.
Because of the unexpected attack, the landlord became concerned and told the crew to leave the premises to prevent any additional complications.
“We felt they only wanted us to leave the house. He wouldn’t do it because the risk was too big,” Lilwin said.

What adds to the concern is that we don’t know exactly what happened. Lilwin told reporters he does not know who was responsible for the attack or what was their motive.
“I do not have any clue about who is behind the mailing or why they did it.” He added, “It was just our way of sharing a story.”
While things were at their worst, Lilwin looked to the Ashanti Regional Minister, who had expressed support for the film. When the call was placed, the group just vanished, making the situation even more tense and suspenseful.
Lilwin is not letting the obstacle get in his way. To that effect, he said the good news is that they have already shot the climactic scenes for the movie.
“Even though I can’t film right now, I want to go ahead and release the movie.”
The film, which tells the story of Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has received both national and regional attention. However, this incident makes people worry about the security and liberty of artists in Ghana’s film industry.
Lilwin told his fans that he is regrouping and looking for new options to finish the project.
“We will not give up because of this,” he emphasized.
To that effect, he stated strongly that the story needed to be told.
