Isaac Kofi Oduro Boateng, commonly referred to as Kofi Boat, has been spotted after his arrest by the Ghanaian police in a collaborative effort with Interpol and the FBI, which shocked the world.
An image of the beleaguered businessman, also referred to as the godfather of dancehall sensation Shatta Wale, appeared online earlier this week. Kofi Boat is seen in the photo looking weak, sad, and unwell, which is a sharp contrast to his former lively public image.
According to sources, Kofi Boat became ill soon after his arrest on Friday, June 13, 2025, and has been under treatment at the Police Hospital in Accra.
Kofi Boat, the CEO of Ice Foods Limited, is charged with heading a criminal syndicate that engaged in large-scale online fraud.
They are accused of defrauding American citizens and companies of more than 100 million dollars in romance scams and Business Email Compromise (BEC) schemes with the help of accomplices Inusah Ahmed, Derrick Van Yeboah, and Patrick Kwame Asare between 2016 and 2023.
They are arrested after an extradition request by the U.S. Department of State, which is done through the U.S. Embassy in Accra. Three of them have been arrested, but a fourth is at large.
The case has attracted more attention due to the association of Kofi Boat with Shatta Wale. Most of the fans of the musician were shocked and sympathetic, particularly when they saw the recent picture of the musician looking weak.
