Many Ghanaians residing in Israel are on an edge as the war between Israel and Iran intensifies. As Israeli authorities have declared state of emergency and closed all borders, hundreds of Ghanaian nationals who were in Israel have been stranded and stuck in the country
The development was confirmed in an update on Monday, June 16, by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
In his declaration, the Ghana Embassy in Israel has already confirmed 922 Ghanaian nationals presently residing in the country. It consists of 65 students studying at six Israeli universities.
Although the Minister of Ablakwa told the people that no Ghanaian was injured or killed, the situation is critical. In contrast with the evacuation of Ghana, which he claims is going on smoothly in Iran, the operations in Israel are being negatively affected by the border closures.
“As the Israeli officials have imposed a state of emergency and sealed all borders, evacuation out of Israel is impossible at this point without the specific permission of the Israeli authorities,” the minister elaborated in her Twitter status.
Notwithstanding the challenges, Mr. Ablakwa stressed that Ghana Emergency Evacuation Plan in Israel has already been endorsed and will be in full swing as soon as it is possible due to the emergency.
Meanwhile, Ghanaian authorities have provided open channels of communication with community members in Israel to provide assistance, advice, and information.

The Ghana Embassy in Israel also follows the suggestion of the Israeli Foreign Ministry to all the diplomats to be working remotely to minimize risk.
The government is working to make sure that Ghanaians in Israel can get bomb shelters and they have promised to maintain active diplomatic efforts to get Israeli authorities to issue evacuation clearance.
Minister Ablakwa on behalf of the Mahama Administration guaranteed the country that no Ghanaian will be left behind.
“The administration of President Mahama is determined not to spare any effort in making sure that Ghanaians in this Israeli-Iranian conflict are accorded all the protection and taken out of harm. We will not prove unfaithful to our compatriots,” he assured.
As the situation becomes increasingly volatile by the day now, everyone is watching to see how Ghana is going to manage to evacuate its citizens back home the moment it is safe to do so.
