The University of Cape Coast is sad at the tragic de@th of Miss Candy Osei Abora, a final-year student, who lost her life in a gas explosion on Monday, May 19, 2025, in the Central Region.
Miss Candy, a 400-level Bachelor of Arts student, lived at Valco Hall, one of the most famous dorms at UCC. Students, lecturers and staff have been shocked by her sudden de@th, saying she was a bright and kind young lady.
The news was made known in a touching tribute posted by Valco Hall on Tuesday, May 20. The Hall said it is saddened by the tragedy and offers its condolences to Candy’s family, friends and all members of the UCC community.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that Miss Candy Osei Abora, a treasured Level 400 student, has passed away. While we are saddened by the loss of such a young and talented person, we share the grief of her family and friends,” the statement continued.
Her de@th was caused by injuries from the explosion which took place off campus. At the moment, authorities have not released all the facts about what caused the incident since they are still conducting their investigation.

Valco Hall reported that preparations are being made to give Miss Candy a proper farewell and will inform us of the funeral arrangements when they are finalized.
Since the news of her death was shared, people have been sharing tributes from all parts of UCC and further afield. Her friends and peers are posting memories, prayers and words of condolence on social media, using her TikTok handle @candy.osei.abora as a virtual memorial spot.
The university is saddened by Miss Candy Osei Abora’s death, which took place weeks before graduation, deemed to be a time of celebration.
While her friends are graduating, they now remember a life that ended prematurely.
