The community of Keta and other parts of the country was thrown into mourning when a Keta SHS girl, Gloria Segoe, was found dead under suspicious circumstances after she was reported missing after allegedly leaving school to go and see her grandmother.
As said by authorities, Gloria was found in a manhole at Tomefa in the Ga South Municipality, several days after she allegedly took exeat to go to Agbozome.
But initial inquiries have shown that the actual place she was going to was not that of her grandmother—the actual place was the home of her boyfriend in Accra.
The heartbreaking discovery was confirmed by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS). According to GNFS Public Relations Officer DOII Desmond Ackah, at 10:02 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, the service was called upon to respond to a distress call.
The dead body of the Keta SHS Girl was retrieved 40 minutes later in a stream and passed over to the police to further investigate.
The mother of the deceased person confirmed the bad news to the family when she identified her in the police hospital.
In the meantime, the young man assumed to be the boyfriend of Gloria has been arrested, and he is helping the police in investigations. He claims to have nothing to do with her de@th, but the police are handling the matter urgently and tactfully.

The devastating information has shaken the social media and local communities to the core and brought back the discussions on the topic of student safety, teenage relationships, and dangers of unsupervised movement among high school teens.
There have been calls by residents of Keta and Tomefa to have justice done and investigate properly into the actual situation that led to the early death of Gloria (the Keta SHS girl).
Police have also promised citizens that a thorough autopsy and a forensic test will be carried out to determine the cause of death and that any possible suspects will be dealt with accordingly.
The de@th of the Keta SHS Girl is again another sad feeling about the fragility of young girls in getting into tricky relationships and issues in the society.
The country is waiting–with one eye on her family, as they grieve this terrible loss, one eye on her, with hope that answers can be found, justice be done and healing provided.
