Ama, the first-ever winner of Ghana Most Beautiful (GMB) has ended up speaking out the horrid reality behind her journey to fame—years of emotional abuse and financial exploitation by her then-boyfriend, who was a man of God and a pastor.
In an exclusive interview with Cynthia Tima Kumkum on Adom FM, Ama spoke publicly about the challenges she had to go through after her trailblazing performance on the GMB stage.
Even as the world was under the impression that she was living the life of her dreams with glitz, glam, and everything successful, Ama was silently going through a nightmare.
“When I won, I saw a lot of hope. I was getting endorsements, I was on television, and people respected me. But in secret, I was being exploited,” Ama said with feeling.
In her account of what happened,”her boyfriend, who had tried to place himself in the role of her spiritual mentor and companion, managed to take control of her finances increasingly.“
He took her money on her endorsement contracts, managed her bank accounts, and even took credit for the brand-new car given to her by TV3.

“He was driving the car as though it belonged to him. He waltzed about town and lapped up attention. In fact, some even began referring to him as ,Ghana’s most handsome,” she continued.
“I was shocked that a person who claimed to love me could treat me in this manner.“
Ama continued that the emotional misdeed was also sad as the financial betrayal. She explained how he kept destroying her self-image, and on the other hand, he used her fame and success to establish his image and reputation in the church and the society.
Her story has elicited a lot of response on social media, with several people outraged and supporting her.
Fans and women’s rights activists are demanding increased education on financial and emotional violence, particularly those that occur in relationships with the one party having spiritual or social authority.
Nevertheless, Ama says she is at last in a healing place in spite of the past. She is hoping that sharing her story will help other young women to learn how to guard their strength, their serenity, and their success that they earned.
