Ghanaian music sensation Black Sherif was in the news after a late show performance at the Unifest Concert frustrated fans—to the point of throwing bottles.
The organisers of the event are now clarifying the record on what exactly went on behind the scenes.
The concert, which was perhaps the most anticipated in the Western Region, was held at the Takoradi Mall Event Centre on June 22. Crowds of fans had lined the streets to see Black Sherif, but when he finally did arrive on stage, it got tense.
During an interview, one of the event organizers, Mutombo, confirmed that things were not as simple as they appeared to be.
He says that the management of Black Sherif declined the agreed amount of GH 300.000 as performance fee, an hour before the scheduled time.
“We had already paid GH¢300,000, but just before the performance, his team pops up and tells us that they also want GH¢50,000,” Mutombo alleged.
“We had spent more than an hour reversing and forwarding. He was not ready to go on stage until the money problem was resolved.”
Another organiser, YB, in an interview on YFM, also remarked that it was not just about the money. In his opinion, Black Sherif also complained to his team about the stage construction, audio, and light of the event.

According to YB they told me that the stage was not of their standard. Although our contract did not have any technical requirements, they had some kind of production requirements.
This caused a scene of disorder and some frustrated audiences went ahead to throw water bottles to the stage as they waited around.
In the meantime, there has been another twist to the story, with Prophet Fire Oja (who previously prophesied against Black Sherif with a curse of doom) insisting that the singer paid spiritual attention in preparation to achieve this success.
Fire Oja of Peace FM added, in a quote released over the interview, that Black Sherif could be currently doing well because he took heed of her warning and sought spiritual protection.
Although the drama, Black Sherif finally performed, yet the impact on the energy and fan feelings of the night was already spoiled.
To prevent such a misunderstanding, organisers have pledged to communicate and make terms with artists in the future to be better.
