Ghanaian preacher Sofo Obotan had caused quite a stir in the country with his claim that he was once a fake man of God, and under the fear of being struck by those he had offended, he had resorted to the use of juju (traditional spiritual powers).
In a video that has gone viral on various social networking sites, Sofo Obotan emotionally confessed to his past life before he decided to go to a shrine to seek powers, and he noted that the decision was prompted by the feeling of guilt and fear.
In his early days in ministry, he was not genuine, as he says he used to scam and emotionally hurt many people knowingly and unknowingly.
He clarified that the gravity of his deeds got him when one of his friends in the ministry, due to whom he had acted, cautioned him that some of the victims could either take physical revenge or spiritual revenge.
According to him, this suggestion caused him severe fear and resulted in his seeking protection of a traditional spiritualist.
“I went to seek powers since I knew I had made a mistake. I was not real, and I had hurt so many,” Sofo Obotan claimed. In the video, Obotan says, ‘My friend said that I had to protect myself before it was late.’

He confessed that the decision to consult a local deity (a local deity that is discussed in the spiritual circles as a minor god) was not made easily, but it seemed like the only possible one at the given moment because of the spiritual dangers that he thought he was facing.
Since the revelation by Sofo Obotan, the internet has been awash with serious debates about whether to ostracize him as a deviant, or to applaud him due to his sincerity.
Even though there are those who are praising him because he is starting to tell the truth, there are those who are accusing him of deceiving people in the name of religion.
It is not the first time that a self-proclaimed man of God publicly admits to employ the non-Christian spiritual resources.
But the fact that Sofo Obotan tells it all, littered with raw emotions, introduces a different dimension to the debate that has been ongoing about depth and lies in contemporary ministries.
The video rages on on the internet as numerous Ghanaians respond with elements of shock, disappointment and introspection.
