The biography is packed with interviews and meticulous research. The biography is written in the style of a gripping drama. The author, Mark Buckley, has written about David Bowie and R.E.M. His thorough research and interviews allow him to tell John’s story as a compelling drama.

John Lennon, a member of the Beatles, started playing the piano at an early age. He was able to play a range of classical pieces by ear and later received a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music in London. The young Lennon also suffered from an inferiority complex and a rocky relationship with his father.

Elton John’s early years were filled with highs and lows. During the mid-’70s, he became a worldwide superstar. His recording schedule was fast and prolific, but his personal life was also full of adversity. His personal life and career suffered after the revelation of his sexuality in a Rolling Stone interview. The negative reaction he received led him to cut back on live shows. In 1977, he retired from live shows and began recording one album per year.

After the release of the 1976 double-album Blue Moves, the relationship between John and Taupin became strained. John began collaborating with other songwriters and secluded himself in three mansions. His comeback tour in 1978 resulted in “Rocket Man” reaching the top 10. His autobiography, The Longest Road to Fame, revealed that he was an ambivalent character.

In the mid-’70s, John Lennon married German recording engineer Renate Blauel. The marriage lasted four years. The couple split. He went on to renounce his bisexuality and became gay. During this time, he checked himself into a hospital in Chicago for substance abuse and underwent hair replacement. He then relocated to Atlanta and released the album “Sacrifice.” “Sacrifice” stayed at the top of the charts for six weeks.

The early ’70s were John’s most successful period, with seven albums reaching the top spot in the US. His live shows were also legendary, with extravagant costumes and over-the-top glasses. In 1976, he released a duet with Kiki Dee, “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” However, after the success of these albums, his career began to fall flat. He also revealed his bisexuality in an interview with Rolling Stone.
