Hearts of Oak crowned Champions of the 2022 MTN FA Cup

Hearts of Oak wins the MTN FA Cup for the 12th time

The capital club and defending champions of the GPL Accra Hearts of oak, had their season wrecked with bad performances. They got kicked out of both CAF related competitions.

The performance of the phobians in the league was quite appalling as inconsistency seemed to be their hallmark.

Some fans started calling for the head of coach Samuel Boadu despite winning the treble for them last season as they seem to have fell out with the coach.

Despite winning the Presidents Cup early this season over arch rivals Asante Kotoko, Hearts performances leave much to be desired.

On Sunday, 26th June 2022 at the Baba Yara sports stadium, the Phobians looked to set the save their season from being a disgraceful one by winning the MTN FA Cup final over Bechem United.

The Hunters scored first on the stroke of half time before Caleb Amankwah got the equaliser minutes later to end the half in a 1-1 draw.

Hearts of Oak came into the second half much more determined and was later rewarded for their hard work as the birthday boy Daniel Afriyie Barnieh got the winner from a Gladson Awako’s pass.

The game ended in a win for Coach Samuel Boadu’s men as they won the FA cup trophy for the 12th time.

As a result of winning the MTN FA Cup Hearts of Oak will take home;

• GH 80,000 cedis as prize money
• 25% of gate proceeds for the final
• GH 100,000 cedis to support their CAF CC journey
• GH 2,000 cedis worth of MTN credit

Coach Boadu after the game had this to say concerning their season

“Hearts of Oak is a big club and we can’t end the season without a trophy, but as a coach not being in the top four I feel I have failed. People should know this as well, with Coach Boadu there’s always a trophy to win.”

Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko will be representing Ghana in Africa come next season. Hopefully, they both get to improve on their previous exodus.
