Bogoso Gas Explosion Claims Over 100 Lives At Apenti [Video]

Fresh reports from the Western Region has it that more than 100 people have lost their lives following a gas explosion at Apenti, a suburb in Bogoso.

We got this report from one of our representatives in the Western Region of Ghana, she was the one who updated us on whatever happened this afternoon at Apenti, a suburb in Bogoso. According to the report, this gas explosion accident was caused by a Fuel Tanker Truck overtaking on the road.

From the mouth of an eyewitness from the next town, the overtaking caused the fuel tanker truck to capsize, resulting in a tremendous explosion. This happened at a gas station as well. As a result, one can imagine the type of explosion.

The number of deaths, according to the reporter, is estimated to be in the hundreds (100). Authorities are currently on their way to the scene in order to maintain law and order.

President Nana Akufo Addo has also reacted to the sad event as he made a post on his official Twitter account.

He wrote;

I have just received a briefing on the circumstances that led to an explosion in Apiate near Bogoso, in the Western Region, resulting in the loss of lives and the destruction of properties belonging to residents. It is a truly sad, unfortunate, and tragic incident, and I extend, on behalf of the Government, deep condolences to the families of the deceased, and I wish the injured a speedy recovery.

The Police, Armed Forces, and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are coordinating efforts to contain the situation, and I have also instructed NADMO to see to it that rapid relief is brought to residents of the town.
