The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has denied that it will raise transportation rates by 30%.
According to several online sources, public transportation fee increases of at least 30% will go into effect on September 21, 2022. However, the GPRTU PRO Abass Ibrahim Imoro strongly denied the article, claiming that the union had not increased rates by 30% as claimed.
He went on to say that the True Drivers’ Union is to blame for the announced 30% increase in transportation costs.
Meanwhile, the Concerned Drivers Association has postponed the implementation of a 30% increase in transit fees until September 21, 2022.
Last week, the Association and the True Drivers Union announced a 30% increase in transportation costs. They claimed that the planned increase was caused by rising gasoline and replacement component costs, as well as the government’s poor economic management.
