On Monday, September 23, 2024, in Manhyia Palace, media stars Mona Gucci and Afia Pokua of Ghana were humbled in their quest to plead after insulting Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The two had come to Manhyia to apologize to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for remarks they had made against the Asantehene a few days prior that sparked controversy.
As a panelist on Mona Gucci’s show on Onua TV, Afia Pokua—an employer of EIB Networks’ Kasapa FM and Agoo TV—criticized Otumfuo for “galamsey” difficulties.
Her critique provoked a strong response from Asantes and other Ghanaians, who viewed it as disrespecting Otumfuo.
Afia Pokua apologized in a statement following the outcry for her behavior. That was insufficient since she was called before a panel at Manhyia.
Social media users have shared footage of Afia Pokua and Mona Gucci that depicts them as depressed and wearing dark clothing.
The two eventually bowed down to the chiefs in contrition and humility. They lowered their heads in supplication. The usually vivacious Afia Pokua and Mona Gucci did not appear at all like themselves.
