The Court of Appeal denied Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as NAM1, an attempt to stop his continuing criminal trial.

The application was submitted while his appeal against a High Court decision requiring him to provide his defense was still underway.

NAM1 was ordered by the High Court in 2024 to begin his defense in a criminal case involving several counts against him, including money laundering, fraudulent breach of trust, selling gold without a license, and deceiving by false pretense.

In an attempt to reverse the High Court’s decision, his legal team then appealed the decision to the Court of Appeal.

In addition to the appeal, they requested a stay of the High Court’s proceedings while the appeal was being heard.

State prosecutors requested the appellate court to reject the application on Monday, May 19, 2025, claiming that it was an effort to overstep the court’s authority and that there were no extraordinary circumstances to support a stay of proceedings.

A three-member Court of Appeal bench unanimously rejected the application, according to Citi News.

Mensah, however, has indicated that he is considering a further appeal to the Supreme Court, based on legal advice from his counsel.
