Career

In 2001, Waters began his racing career in go-karts. Waters moved on to open wheelers after racing on a national level and winning a number of state championships. In 2009, he started out in Formula Vee. In 2010, he moved up to the Australian Formula Ford Championship. He finished on the podium in three races and was sixth in the championship standings, which gave him the title of Rookie of the Year. The following year, Waters won seven races and won the championship. Waters drove for Kelly Racing in the V8 Supercar Development Series at Sandown at the end of the 2011 season. He then drove for the team’s new project, Dreamtime Racing, in the 2012 season, until the team had to stop for financial reasons.

In 2015, it was announced that he would be racing for Prodrive Racing Australia in the V8 Supercar Enduro Cup and the Dunlop Series. At the Sandown 500, Waters and Chaz Mostert tied for second place, giving Prodrive Racing Australia a one-two finish. Mostert had a huge accident at the Bathurst 1000, and the car couldn’t be fixed, so the team had to pull out of the race. Mostert was hurt in the Bathurst crash, so Waters took his place at the Gold Coast, New Zealand, and Phillip Island races while Mostert healed. At Sydney Olympic Park, Waters beat reigning champion Paul Dumbrell to win the 2015 V8 Supercars Dunlop Series.

Early in March 2016, it was announced that Waters would drive the No. 6 Ford FG X Falcon for Prodrive Racing Australia full-time in the 2016 V8 Supercars Championship, while Mostert would move to the No. 55 Rod Nash Racing customer car.
