Iron Man and Captain America could return in Secret Wars

Iron Man and Captain America could return

Many people can’t wait to see legendary heroes return from across the multiverse as the MCU prepares for the conclusion of its final arc with the Avengers: Secret Wars event. After all, ever since their journeys culminated in Avengers: Endgame, fans have been asking for more of Chris Evans’ Captain America and Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man.

Rumors have started swirling that the Iron Man and Captain America actors may be set to return to the MCU as talk of the multiverse heats up. While Patrick Stewart’s Professor X hinted at this possibility in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans are still demanding to meet the two MCU veterans again.

So, when it comes to Rogers returning to Earth-616, rumors suggest Evans seems hard to come up with a justification that isn’t just about fan service. He wants his return through the multiverse to make perfect sense.

Since Secret Wars is a multiverse-wide crossover, Evans could play any number of original Captain America variants and potentially engage in combat with his former allies. Surely Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, could find a meaningful way to make it work.

The return of Robert Downey Jr.

Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man died in Avengers: Endgame, ending his decade-long run in the MCU, unlike Chris Evans’ Captain America, who retired early. Fans are still pleading for Downey Jr. to return to the MCU even though he’s finished his heroic journey and is moving on to other projects.

When Downey Jr.’s time in the MCU ended, he was earning a salary that could only be justified by a blockbuster Avengers movie that would bring in billions. Therefore, Secret Wars would be the setting for Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Iron Man.

Rumor has it that the most likely storyline for him to emerge is when a variant of Iron Man from another dimension encounters the 616 heroes of Secret Wars. The actor and Marvel Studios don’t want to risk undermining Tony Stark’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame by reintroducing him via resurrection or time travel.
