Gyakie’s New Achievement
Gyakie, whose 2021 single Forever and (2020) Seed EP gained a double platinum certification plaque in South Africa, has won the award for Best West African Artiste at Nigeria’s Headies Awards for the second time.
Gyakie has been on a roll since the release of her debut effort, SEED EP, and her expanding influence on the African music scene is subtle yet impressive.

According to the Recording Industry of South Africa, both projects have sold over 40,000 units in South Africa alone (RiSA).
The 23-year-old Afropop artist defeated KiDi, Amaarae, Angelique Kidjo of Benin, Aya Nakamura of Mali, and Nelson Freitas of Cape Verde in her category.
This is her first Headies award since entering the music industry a few years ago. She recently released another project, My Diary EP, which includes songs like ‘Something’ and ‘Flames’ with Davido, which are creating waves abroad.
The Headies Awards are Nigeria’s largest and most anticipated music awards show, and the Best West African Artist category honors performers of West African heritage who have made great achievements and had a significant influence across Africa.
Wizkid the highest recipient with five awards out of 10 nominations while Patoranking, Olamide, Burna Boy, Tems, Ayra Starr, Fireboy DML and others also received awards at the event.
