Goshers interviews Emmanuel from Ebenezer Senior High School, who advocates for trade skills over government jobs
In a recent interview with High Schools Africa, a platform run by Goshers that showcases the voices of young students across the continent, a bright and articulate student from Ebenezer Senior High School shared her compelling perspective on the importance of learning a trade.
With passion and clarity, she spoke about the need for Ghanaians, especially the youth, to consider skill acquisition as a viable and rewarding path to financial independence.
During the interview, the student emphasized that many young Ghanaians grow up aspiring to become government employees, often attracted by the perceived stability of these jobs.
However, she noted that these positions frequently come with relatively low salaries, making it difficult for individuals to achieve financial freedom.
“Most government jobs offer stability, but the income isn’t always enough to meet the rising cost of living,” she explained. “In contrast, someone who learns a trade—whether it’s tailoring, carpentry, or even modern skills like graphic design and coding—can earn more and potentially grow their own business.”
