A bullion van transporting cash was involved in a head-on collision with a Kia truck in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, leading to tragedy. It was a gruesome acc!dent that left five people dead, including two young police officers who were escorting the van.
The officers who were k!lled have been identified as Lance Corporal Kojo Kankam, who was 33 years old, and Lance Corporal Asangalisah, who was 26 years old. Families and the whole police service are mourning the news.
Eyewitnesses and local media reported that the accident happened when the bullion van was trying to pass another car as it climbed a hill.
Sadly, the daredevil stunt ended up in a fatal cr@sh with an incoming Kia truck. It was so hard that it resulted in immediate de@th and put the crash site in a very disorganised position.
Disturbing video footage of the scene has since emerged online that displays the wreckage and the aftermath of the collision.

The authorities are also conducting investigations into the crash such as whether there was any negligence on the part of the bullion van driver who is reported to have taken the risky move during his duties.
No detailed communication with the outside world has yet been made by the Ghana Police Service, although some internal condolences have already started circulating among police officers.

The accident has revived the fear by citizens regarding the safety of the bullion van operation in Ghana as many such accidents are being recorded whether involving police escort or not.
Majority of the citizens have demanded strict driving procedures, enhanced driver orientation of security vehicles and safer escort mechanisms.
As the country grieves the death of these officers and others involved, it is a reminder of the risk that law enforcement officers are exposed to when they are safeguarding people and important facilities.
