The Black Stars trained on Tuesday in preparation for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023), with 24 of the final 27 players taking part.
This marks the start of a nine-day camp in Kumasi before the team travels to Ivory Coast for the AFCON 2023, which is set to begin on January 13, 2024.
Originally scheduled to train at the Baba Yara Stadium, the technical team, led by Chris Hughton, shifted the first day’s training to the Dr Kwame Kyei Sports Complex after a thorough inspection revealed that the pitch at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium was in poor condition.
Joseph Wollacott, Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Alidu Seidu, Denis Odoi, Kingsley Schindler, Gideon Mensah, Abdul Fatawu Hamid, Nicholas Opoku, and Daniel Amartey were among the 24 players who took part.
Salisu Mohammed, Alexander Djiku, Baba Iddrisu, Elisha Owusu, Abdul Samed Salis, Richmond Lamptey, Majeed Ashimeru, Andre Ayew, Ransford Yeboah Koningsdorffer, Osman Bukari, Joseph Painstil, Ernest Nuamah, Antoine Semenyo, and Jonathan Sowah were among the other players who took part.
According to Athletic Bilbao, the only players who have yet to join the camp are West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, Jordan Ayew, and Inaki Williams, who are reportedly suffering from illness.
On Monday, January 8, 2024, Ghana will play an international friendly against Namibia.
In Abidjan, the Black Stars will face Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique in the group stage.
