Asante Kotoko are the Champions elect of the GPL

Kumasi Asante Kotoko has been crowned champions of Ghana for the 25th time as they drew with AshGold on Thursday afternoon.

The Kumasi based club has had quite an amazing season under the leadership of former WAFA coach Prosper Ogum.
Coach Ogum took over from Portuguese gaffer Mariano Barietto who was the Porcupine warriors lose the GPL title to arch rivals Accra Hearts Of Oak.

Kotoko took on Ashgold at the Obuasi Lenclay sports stadium with the GPL title in sights. Their dreams seemed to be hitting the rock as Ashgold talisman Yaw Annor put the Miners in front on the 10th minute.
After numerous attempts to get the equaliser, the Porcupine warriors drew level through Maxwell Agyemang on the 66th minute. With 10 more points ahead of the second-placed team, Kotoko we’re crowned champions with 3 matches to go.

Asante Kotoko went back on top of the Ghana Premier League table on the first day of 2022 and never moved after. By the time the league ends, the Porcupine Warriors would have spent 168 days at the summit of the league.

Coach Ogum’s men will be representing Ghana in the CAF Champions League next season.
